Welcome to St Wulstan’s Catholic Primary School

A message from our Principal, Mrs Walker

Welcome to St Wulstan’s Catholic Primary School. I am delighted to welcome you to our school website and hope it gives you a sense of the warmth, faith, ambition and family spirit that make our school such a special place.

As Principal, I feel incredibly proud to lead a school where children are at the heart of everything we do. At St Wulstan’s, we believe that education is about so much more than academic achievement. It is about helping every child to discover their unique gifts, develop a love of learning and grow into a confident, compassionate and thoughtful young person.

What makes a Catholic education special?

You may be wondering what makes choosing a Catholic school different. Of course, we want every child to achieve academically, to develop a love of learning and to leave us ready for the next stage of their education. But a Catholic education offers something more. At the heart of our faith is the belief that every child is loved, every child is unique and every child has something special to offer the world. We believe that each child is made in the image and likeness of God, with their own gifts, talents, personality and potential. Our job is to recognise those gifts, nurture them and help every child understand just how precious they are. We want our children to know that they matter. Not because of the grades they achieve, the awards they win or how well they perform, but simply because they are who they are. We want them to feel safe enough to make mistakes, confident enough to have a go, brave enough to try something new and secure enough to know that, whatever happens, they will be supported and encouraged.

That is what we believe a Catholic education should offer. It is about educating the whole child: their mind, their heart and their spirit.

Our mission is at the heart of school life:

“We come to school to love, learn and share in the light of Jesus.”

These words are not simply a statement of what we believe; they guide the way we learn, the way we treat one another and the way we contribute to the world around us.

A school where every child belongs

At St Wulstan’s, we believe that every child is unique, precious and deserving of love. Rooted in our Catholic faith, we recognise the individual gifts, talents and potential that each child brings to our school community. We want every child to feel safe, valued and understood, knowing that they belong and that they can achieve great things.

Our school is a family. Children, staff, parents, carers, governors and parish members work together to create a community built on kindness, respect, trust and a shared commitment to helping every child flourish. We value the partnership we have with our families and believe that the very best outcomes are achieved when we work together.

A love of learning and a desire to achieve

We are committed to providing an ambitious, engaging and inclusive education that enables every child to fulfil their potential. From those precious first steps in our Early Years Foundation Stage through to the excitement of Year 6, we want our children to be curious, creative, resilient and enthusiastic learners.

We recognise that every child’s journey is different. Our dedicated staff work hard to understand each child as an individual, providing the support, encouragement and challenge they need to make progress and develop confidence.

We want our children to leave St Wulstan’s with a strong foundation of knowledge and skills, a genuine love of learning and the confidence to embrace the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.

Learning to make a difference

Our Catholic ethos shapes not only what we teach, but how we live together. Through our faith, our relationships and our daily experiences, we help children understand the importance of kindness, compassion, forgiveness, service and standing up for what is right.

We encourage our children to look beyond themselves: to notice when someone needs help, to welcome others, to care for our world and to recognise that even the smallest act of kindness can make a difference.

We want our children to leave St Wulstan’s not only as successful learners, but as thoughtful and compassionate young people who understand their responsibility to others and have the confidence to make a positive contribution to the world.

Our partnership with parents is a key part of our success, and we pride ourselves on having strong and positive relationships, listening to parent views and supporting you in getting the very best for your children. We also offer full before and after-school facilities, extending the day from 7.30am until 5.30pm for all year groups, at an additional cost.
We have a rich sporting and musical tradition, with opportunities for children to develop their skills and participate in inter-school competitions and concerts. Our pastoral support team works closely with families and children requiring additional support, ensuring that their needs are met at the earliest possible stages.

Growing together in faith and friendship

Whether you are a prospective parent, a current member of our school family or a visitor wishing to learn more about St Wulstan’s, I hope you find our website helpful and informative.

Choosing a school is an important decision, and we would love the opportunity to welcome you in person, show you our wonderful school and help you discover what makes St Wulstan’s so special.

We cannot promise that every day will be without its challenges, but we can promise that we will strive to know every child, celebrate their successes, support them through difficulties and encourage them to become the very best version of themselves.

We are always delighted to welcome prospective parents to our school, and we encourage you to visit us during the school day to see our wonderful children in action.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about us. We look forward to sharing our school with you and, hopefully, welcoming your family into ours.

With warmest wishes,

Mrs Walker
